Job Description
This role suits someone who wants ownership rather than a ticket queue, and who is comfortable being measured on traffic quality and leads rather than on rankings alone. If your SEO experience has been entirely through an agency intermediary and you have never touched a site structure directly, this will be a steep step up.
Key Responsibilities
Day to day, here’s what you’ll own:
Own the organic search roadmap: decide what gets fixed, written, or restructured, and in what order.
Run technical SEO across crawling, indexing, canonicals, redirects, sitemaps, structured data, Core Web Vitals, and site architecture.
Research keywords and search intent to find the commercial, informational, and location-based opportunities worth building for.
Write content briefs the writers can work from, then review what gets published against the intent it was built for.
Design and maintain internal linking so topical authority accumulates instead of being spread thin.
Specify technical fixes for the development team and verify them after release.
Own SEO through migrations, URL changes, and new directory launches so traffic survives the change.
Track Search Console, GA4, rankings, and conversions, and explain what moved and why rather than only reporting it.
Run documented SEO experiments and keep the results somewhere the rest of the team can use them.
Follow how Google and AI search surfaces are changing, and adjust the approach before traffic moves.
Requirements & Experience
The right candidate brings most of the following:
1 to 4 years of hands-on SEO experience where you personally made the changes, not only recommended them.
Working command of technical SEO: crawling, indexing, canonical tags, redirects, XML sitemaps, robots.txt, and structured data.
Confident with Google Search Console and GA4, plus at least one of Ahrefs, Semrush, or Screaming Frog.
Able to turn an audit into a ranked action list with reasons attached, not a 90-row spreadsheet dump.
Enough HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to read a page, find the problem, and describe the fix to a developer.
Comfortable being measured on organic traffic quality and qualified leads.
Clear written English. A large part of this role is explaining findings to people who are not SEOs.
